BookStore Policies
GUIDELINES FOR SALES DURING GCOMM
(A) Usual Goods (books, cds etc)
1. All participants wishing to sell their goods will need to do so via the SBC Bookstore, on a consignment basis, after your submitted bulk list has been approved by the Committee (see 2)
2. GComm & SBC Bookstore has the right to decide if certain items are not suitable for sale during the conference due to Singapore’s sensitive multiracial and religious society and will inform participants accordingly.
2.1. Participants must send over a list of goods to be sold and displayed to Dr Koh Siang Kiang (Email at skoh@sbc.edu.sg) by 30th April , before shipping the actual goods over.
3. All participants wishing to sell their goods will need to inform SBC Bookstore by 20 April 2010. We regret that late requests will not be entertained, due to the scale of the event.
4. Goods to be sold should reach SBC by 1st June 2010, for vetting, cataloging and pricing.
5. If it is really not possible/feasible to ship the goods prior to the conference, participants will need to state the reason and provide a list of inventory.
6. All shipment costs, including Goods & Services Taxes (GST), are to be borne by participants.
6.1. For GST and other payments that are known only at the point of destination, participants are to make payment to SBC upon arrival for the conference.
7. SBC Bookstore has the right to decide how to display all goods for sale.
7.1. SBC Bookstore undertakes to display all participants’ goods to their optimal advantage.
8. For all goods sold, SBC Bookstore will retain 20% of the selling price of goods.
9. All selling price will be in Singapore Dollars.
10. Participants are to advise SBC Bookstore of the selling price for their goods, after taking the above (points 8 and 9) into account.
10.1. For goods priced in foreign currencies, SBC Bookstore will use a fixed conversion factor to price the goods in Singapore Dollars. The conversion factor will be advised nearer the date of the conference.
11. SBC Bookstore will return all unsold goods to participants at the end of the conference (Date: 7 July 2010 night).
12. All costs to ship unsold goods back to the original countries will be borne by participants.
13. It is advisable that participants inform of their dates of departure from Singapore after the conference, so SBC Bookstore can work out the sales proceed to be returned to participants in an orderly and expedient manner.
14. All monies from the sale will be paid out in Singapore Dollars, to the participants who handed us the goods in the first place.
(B) Goods requiring special approval (DVDs, VCDs etc. Generally media material that contains images)
1. Special approval is required from Singapore’s censorship board - Media Development Authority (MDA) - before such goods can be brought into Singapore for sale.
2. Only institutions with the approved license from MDA can help participants obtain such approvals.
3. Participants can approach the following institutions for assistance to secure the approvals: (see A2)

4. Once approval is obtained, such goods can then be displayed by SBC Bookstore for sale. The usual procedures (under (A) above) will then apply.
Special note:
a) Such approvals may take longer time to secure. It is thus advisable that participants contact the institutions above as soon as possible should they be interested to sell goods falling into this category.
b) Fees are payable for such applications and it is up to the participant to settle with the individual institution who is to bear the fees and other related expenses.
